Monopole Rioja - Bottle
Monopole is Spain's oldest white wine brand, made by CVNE in Haro since 1915. The 2022 is 100% Viura from bush-trained vines in Rioja Alta, hand-harvested and fermented cold in stainless steel for maximum freshness. Pale yellow with spring flowers, crisp orchard fruit, pineapple and a lively streak of acidity - elegant, fine and cheerful in equal measure. Brilliant with fish, shellfish and tapas, especially jamon. 13% ABV, 75cl. Suitable for vegans.
Tasting notes
THEY SAY (CVNE, 2022 vintage): Pale yellow colour. Medium aromatic intensity on the nose with aromas of spring flowers intertwined with pome fruit, pineapple and banana. A smooth and lively entry on the palate, with the mid-palate marked by the typical acidity of the wine. A fruity and long aftertaste, perfectly balanced - an elegant, fine and at the same time cheerful wine. Pairs perfectly with fish, shellfish and all kinds of appetizers including ham. Serve at 8-10°C.
WE SAY: Spain's oldest white wine brand - CVNE has been bottling Monopole since 1915, and they've had plenty of practice. Crisp and zesty with orchard fruit, a flash of pineapple and a cheerful streak of acidity. The sort of white that vanishes alarmingly fast alongside fish, prawns or a plate of jamon. Serve well chilled.
Production notes
Grapes from CVNE's own vineyards in Rioja Alta and long-standing local growers; bush-trained Viura on cool clay-loam soils, with all vineyard work carried out by hand including harvest. The 2022 harvest began on 8th September in the Torremontalbo vineyards. On arrival, the grapes underwent 8 hours of cold maceration with the skins at 10-12°C, gentle pneumatic pressing for free-run juice, static clarification, then fermentation in stainless steel at controlled temperature to preserve the fruity, floral primary aromas. Suitable for vegans. Contains sulphites.
